Visiting Maine with a medical card from another state? You may be able to shop medical here — Maine recognizes qualifying patients from approved states.

Reciprocity is active

In effect since June 6, 2019 (PL 2019, ch. 209). No Maine certification, caregiver, or dispensary designation required.

Bring your card

Show your state-issued registry ID card, certificate, or other state documentation of your medical-patient status.

Purchase limit

Up to 2.5 oz of medical cannabis & products combined, every 15 days, while visiting.

Not from an approved state?

Adults 21+ can still shop Maine's adult-use (recreational) stores with a valid government ID — no medical card needed. Adult-use retail has been open since October 9, 2020.
